Schm!

Oh my god I’m so sick of this country, its people, their cabins and out door hot tubs and trampolines and their saturday homemade pizzas and taco dinners and I’m sick of the titles on the online newspapers and SLR cameras and the songs they play on the radio on and on and on, and food and cleaning and going to bed and the names that people give their kids and waiting and driving the same road every day and Hjernevask and concrete and myself.

What I’m not sick of:

- snow
- Michael Jackson (getting close, though)
- Pepsi
- studying
- documentaries
- being a Red Cross volunteer
- my friends
- my family
- pugs
- Finnmark
- Erlingbu
- Bodø Big Band
- bubble wrap :-P
- Sunday mornings
- spending Friday evenings with my sister, my parents, Andreas and Terje
- Andreas
- Terje
- Napsu
- coffee
- cafés
- Magasinet
- Janne Ahonen
- Aftenposten Innsikt
- candles in the evening
- Swedish movies
- Suomi
- Omid Djalili
- flying
- skiing
- you

…and the list goes on :-)

For those who have not yet made a giraffe for Ola Helland, go ahead and do it! If you have no idea what I’m talking about, go to www.onemilliongiraffes.com.

This is my contribution:

So why do I have a blog and a flickr pro account but not a facebook profile?

How is a blog or a flickr account different from a facebook profile?

1. The main purpose of a blog or a flickr account is not to keep in touch with your friends.

2. A facebook profile is generelly considered as a must have for the majority. Blogs and flickr pages are not.

3. Flickr accounts are for pictures.

The purpose of this blog is not to show everyone what I do every day. Exception to this “argument”: the flickr project where I take one picture every day.  It’s just a temporary thing I joined because my friends asked me if I wanted to join. :-P

Besides: do you see the words blog or flickr on this T-shirt I just bought from despair.com? ;-)

Amman Schmamman - Janne jatkaa!

I’m kind of crazy about skijumping. I wish I could jump myself, but I don’t have anyone to teach me. Skijumping and flying in general facinates me and skijumping just looks awesome. Besides Finland has always been good at it, and that makes it even more fun :-P

My all time favourite sportsman quit two years ago but then he made a decision to come back, so this year he’s been competing again. The first part of his comeback year was amazing: he became 2nd in the 4 hill tournament, but the second part of this season didn’t go very well even though he fought like a hero at the Olympics. Luckily he has decided to continue for one more year. :-D

Janne is aiming for success at the World Championships in Oslo next year. I can’t be there (ARGH!) so anyone who is going: give him an extra cheer from me!

Bodø vs. Oslo/Africa/Whatever

Okay so we’re moving from Bodø this summer and people ask me why (because I’m the sinner ;-)). This is why:

- I don’t like concrete (betong)
- I don’t like rain in January when there should be snow
- I don’t like crappy newspapers
- My desired workplace is not here right now
- The cultural life is too small (Maybe I’ll come back when they have build a proper concert house. The one they have looks like the sixties and has too expensive tickets.)
- The whole town actually looks like it’s from sixties’ Yugoslavia. (I’m sorry about that former Yugoslavian countries.) The city centre around the main postal office, the City Hall and the so-called park is the saddest sight.
- I miss my friends
- This is not what I dreamt of and I believe everyone has to follow their dreams. Life is now.
- That horrible herring oil smell!
- The city council/city mafia/whoever really governs this place doesn’t know the procedures of sensible city planning
- The bus is too freaking expensive
- The cinema is so small that it only shows the most commercial films
- When there is no concert on, there is really not anything else to do here in the evenings but bowling, drinking, eating expensive food, going to the movies (please read previous point), playing pool, playing air hockey and….well yeah, that’s about it.
- This city is so destructive: cafés are closing down frequently, it seems like nothing is able to start up here and actually survive. Buildings are falling into disrepair.

Bodø city, Bodø by…

If my project of going to Africa goes down the drain, I have a plan B: moving to Oslo. Because:

- It means a lot of opportunities and a richer cultural life
- My relatives (are almost extinct, but) live there
- A ticket to Finland costs 300 krones
- It has beautiful parks and beautiful old buildings (I know it has got ugly buildings as well, but that’s nothing compared to Bodø)
- I have friends there (I have a couple of friends in Bodø too and of course I’ll miss them)
- Andreas will have the opportunity to study what he really wants to study
- Grønland! The small shops, the colours, people from all over the world

This said, I’m going to miss a lot of people, like my sister, and places like Mørkved, Erlingbu… But you got to leave something behind to follow your dreams, right?

Oscars schmoscars

Norwegian TV and the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation is sinking very low tonight when broadcasting live from the Oscars in Hollywood. Why should we care about that in Norway?? It probably costs a loootta money too. I wonder when we are going to start celebrating Thanksgiving as well.
