I flew! :-D

Earlier this year I was in Sulitjelma with the Red Cross, where I work as a volunteer. I met a very nice and friendly man from the Norwegian Civil Defence. I told him I love aeroplanes and I love to fly, and he promised me to let me try flying. And today was the day! I flew an aeroplane :-D It was like nothing else I have ever done, and I am SO going to save up money for a private pilot’s license!

Look mum, I’m flying!

My pets!

My trumpets came this week and they both sound beautiful! I’m especially surprised by the sound of the Holton horn which only cost me about 2600 kr.

Me and my new friends :-)

Finally - a vintage trumpet!

I’ve been looking for a Martin Committee trumpet for several days on ebay now and I was outbid on the trumpet I first had my eyes on :-P, but today I finally made up my mind and bought this beautiful horn from 1964 with a flower decoration on the bell. I have no idea how the horn sounds, but if you don’t take chances you won’t get anywhere ;-) I’m still waiting for my other new horn, a cheap Holton from 1945 (!), to come in the mail. I bought it because I trust the brand and because I’ve always wanted a silver plated trumpet. Exciting days!

Quote (Norwegian)

I read a way too long article (8 pages, come on!) in a magazine about a woman who went to Denmark to get an insemination because she wanted a baby so bad. I just wanted to quote one of the things she writes in her diary:

“Jeg tenker mye på at det er dårlig gjort å sette et barn til verden på disse premissene. Til en verden som jeg av og til føler er på vei til helvete på første klasse. Å sette deg til verden, for så på et eller annet stadium ikke klare å beskytte deg mot alle utfordringene i livet, føles egentlig helt urimelig.”

Amen.

Check out these

Last week I participated in the Groove Valley Jazzcamp in the beautiful valley of Beiarn not far away from Bodø. (www.jazzcamp.no)

I love discovering new musicians, and this time I discovered this fabulous singer called Jarle Bernhoft. If you like soul and groovy music, check out his music on myspace.com/jarlebernhoft. He is just great! If you ever have a chance of going to one of his concerts, especially one of his solo ones, I absolutely recommend you to go! He has to be experienced live :-).

Everyone should also check out Mathias Eick’s music. Norway’s best trumpet player! myspace.com/mathiaseick

I got a lot of inspiration from the jazzcamp, and now I’ve decided to buy a new trumpet. I’m looking for a vintage trumpet with a soft sound, because that is the sound I want to play with. I’ve already bought a cheap Holton trumpet from 1945 from ebay, and I know that’s risky, but I took a chance. I also want to buy a Martin Committee from ebay. Maybe I will.
