A quick hello

Don’t have time to post photos because everything is so slow here. Today we went to Merica hotel to have a swim in their swimming pool. Afterwards I had an exhausting visit to the market to buy some souvenirs. Now heading off to Taidy’s restaurant for lunch.

Oh, and Michael Jackson died.

Safari

Back from safari. It was marvellous! We lived in tents with electricity and hot shower, the food was delicious and the park was amazing. Still, there’s something about safari that I don’t like. Safaris are ok, but I think they should be more exclusive. I was disgusted when several vans full of tourists with cameras gathered around lions or cheetas to take pictures.

We also visited a Masai village, also known as a Masai Mara major tourist trap.

Work was exhausting today, everything was either broken or missing, and the kids kept shouting and crying. But at the end of the day it was okay.

I also visited the dump at the Hilton slums for the second time. So much trash and dirt, but somehow I’m used to it now.

Don’t have time to post a photo, gotta go before it gets dark.

Off to safari

This weekend is going to be great. I’m soon heading off to Lake Nakuru National Park to see all the flamingos and hopefully rhinos and other animals. :)

I’m better now, my stomach is better and my flu is okay.

It took me one and a half week to get over homesickness, and now I’m just enjoying my time here.

This is us on local boda bodas (bicycles) on our way home.

See you :)

First week in Kenya

Well, this is a totally different world. Kenya looks both beautiful and horrible - and it’s hot and sunny.

The guys I live with are like the nicest guys I’ve ever met, and the kids at the Walk Centre are really nice. Usually I don’t like kids but I like the kids here. The kids in my class are between 7 and 10 years old, and they are really clever. I’ve had a music class with them and assisted their teacher Gladys.

I do miss home, and today I actually feel like crap, because I got sick. But I hope it will not last for more than 2 or 3 days…

The people here seem happy, just look at this picture. But the kids keep calling us mum and dad, and they always want hugs so there is no doubt that they miss a family. Whatever goes on in the minds of the people in the slum here, I’ve already learned to see things in another perspective, now that I’ve seen all this with my own eyes.

I miss you all.

Pre-Kenya

Just a few more days to go. I’m both scared and looking forward to it. On one hand I can’t wait to go, on the other hand I know I’m going to be filled with fear.

At 9 p.m. on Saturday I’ll be in Kenya. I hope you’ll read about my crazy adventure!

See you on the other side ;-)
