I got a phone call today…
I got a job at Fredskorpset! (www.fredskorpset.no) I can’t believe it! I’m moving to either Kenya or Uganda in September and I’m going to stay there for almost a year! It’s a dream come true ![]()

Okay so we’re moving from Bodø this summer and people ask me why (because I’m the sinner ;-)). This is why:
- I don’t like concrete (betong)
- I don’t like rain in January when there should be snow
- I don’t like crappy newspapers
- My desired workplace is not here right now
- The cultural life is too small (Maybe I’ll come back when they have build a proper concert house. The one they have looks like the sixties and has too expensive tickets.)
- The whole town actually looks like it’s from sixties’ Yugoslavia. (I’m sorry about that former Yugoslavian countries.) The city centre around the main postal office, the City Hall and the so-called park is the saddest sight.
- I miss my friends
- This is not what I dreamt of and I believe everyone has to follow their dreams. Life is now.
- That horrible herring oil smell!
- The city council/city mafia/whoever really governs this place doesn’t know the procedures of sensible city planning
- The bus is too freaking expensive
- The cinema is so small that it only shows the most commercial films
- When there is no concert on, there is really not anything else to do here in the evenings but bowling, drinking, eating expensive food, going to the movies (please read previous point), playing pool, playing air hockey and….well yeah, that’s about it.
- This city is so destructive: cafés are closing down frequently, it seems like nothing is able to start up here and actually survive. Buildings are falling into disrepair.
If my project of going to Africa goes down the drain, I have a plan B: moving to Oslo. Because:
- It means a lot of opportunities and a richer cultural life
- My relatives (are almost extinct, but) live there
- A ticket to Finland costs 300 krones
- It has beautiful parks and beautiful old buildings (I know it has got ugly buildings as well, but that’s nothing compared to Bodø)
- I have friends there (I have a couple of friends in Bodø too and of course I’ll miss them)
- Andreas will have the opportunity to study what he really wants to study
- Grønland! The small shops, the colours, people from all over the world
This said, I’m going to miss a lot of people, like my sister, and places like Mørkved, Erlingbu… But you got to leave something behind to follow your dreams, right?
I’m glad the rest of the world (that is, all countries except most countries in Europe + North America, Russia and Japan) doesn’t care about the schmolympics because Finland has had its worst olympic games ever. No medals in skijumping, cross country skiers fall or get sick and the biathlon team just sucks. The male cross country skiers still struggle with building up the team after the scandal in 2001. I strongly recommend anyone talking to me to avoid complaining about Norway not getting another medal because most likely my face will turn lilac and you will have to run fast.
I need some advice. I got tired of the songs on my mp3 player that I’ve been listening to for very long. I still love that music but I need some new musical inspiration. So I deleted the songs on my mp3 player and want to fill it with something new. Does anyone have recommendations, favourite bands/songs? What do you think I should fill my mp3 player with? I like anything groovy, or happy, or funny, funky, hip hop, world, jazz, or maybe you can introduce me to something new?
People! Have you all lost your imagination?
What is with this thing that it seems to be obligatory to equip every Norwegian home with Sing Star, Nintendo Wii and Guitar Hero?
Turn off your oversized TV screens and get out of your couches! Real life is what happens outside, among people.
Why did planet earth develop creatures that destroy it? Humans have done nothing but harm the planet. Why would evolution make creatures like that? Or is it just out of control? Climate change has happened before, but this is the first time the planet is full of garbage, buildings, cars, aeroplanes. Why is the smartest inhabitant of the planet the most stupid one? This is not making any sense to me. I say make the moose the president of the United States, the penguins his political advisors, the panda the president of China, the rabbit the EU president or whatever, and so on, and the pugs could govern locally in all the different countries.
Dave agrees with me! Bla-ha!

Like my friends Kristian and Helge I will take a photo each day in 2010. Follow the “project” on my flickr page!
